SILICONE IMPLANT
Pre-Op
Breast augmentation with silicone implants is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures in Brazil. The incision may be made around the areola, in the inframammary fold, or through the axilla. This decision is made jointly between the patient and the surgeon after proper evaluation.
In the preoperative period, physiotherapy focuses on strengthening the upper trunk support muscles and stretching the pectoral region. Respiratory training is also important, and patients should stop smoking at least 30 days before and after surgery.
A particular aspect of this procedure is skin stretching due to implant placement. Therefore, preoperative care becomes an important ally in preparing the skin. Deep hydration, gentle exfoliation (gomage), and manual drainage techniques are highly beneficial.
Nutritional guidance is also strongly recommended to support digestive health and cellular nourishment. Foods high in sugar should be avoided due to their contribution to oxidative stress and free radical production, which can negatively affect surgical outcomes. Recent studies have highlighted the benefits of combining nutricosmetic supplements before and after surgery.
Post-Op
Postoperative Care After Breast Implant Surgery
-
The main concern is limiting arm movement and avoiding lifting weights.
-
Arm movements should be restricted for the first 15 days, allowing only slight elevation (up to 90º) and abduction (opening arms up to 45º), just enough for underarm ventilation and hygiene.
-
Physical therapy should begin on the fourth or fifth postoperative day, counting from the day of surgery, or as soon as authorized by the surgeon.
-
The breasts are usually significantly swollen (edematous), though typically without bruising (ecchymosis).
-
The patient will be evaluated and documented on the first day of care, and a physiotherapeutic diagnosis will be established based on that evaluation.
-
A total of 5 to 10 treatment sessions is recommended over 2 to 4 weeks, but this may vary depending on the initial evaluation and the patient’s daily progress.
-
Postural guidance, positioning, and movement demonstrations are essential for both the patient and caregivers.
-
Moisturization of the area should be done gently. Do not rub or scratch the surgical site.
-
Wound care and hygiene are performed as needed and only upon medical request.
-
Manual lymphatic drainage is performed in all sessions. We master various techniques (Leduc – Godoy – Vodder), are internationally certified, and provide ongoing team training to ensure precision and high-quality care.
-
Use of supportive surgical bras is recommended for 60 to 90 days, preferably with wide straps for optimal support.
