BRACHEOPLASTY

Pre-Op

Surgery that removes excess skin from the arms, an incision (cut) is made on the back of the arms, leaving the cut as far out of sight as possible.

In the preoperative period, muscle strengthening and stretching of the arms, drainage and electrotherapy for tone, hydration and exfoliation days before surgery are recommended. Underarm waxing is recommended.

Another item is respiratory preparation, as well as stopping smoking at least 30 days before and after surgery.

Post-Op

Post-operative care for brachioplasty:

  • The main focus is on maintaining dryness in the axillary area and ensuring the correct use of compression garments.

  • Arm movement is restricted for the first 15 days to small extensions (90º) and abductions (arms open to 45º), just enough to allow ventilation and hygiene of the axillary area.

  • Physiotherapy sessions should begin on the third or fourth day after surgery, counting from the day of surgery.

  • The patient will be assessed and documented on the first day of treatment, and their physiotherapy diagnosis will be established based on that day.

  • It is recommended to have 5 to 10 physiotherapy sessions within a 2 to 4-week interval, but this number may vary depending on the physiotherapist's assessment on the first day and the patient's daily progress.

  • Instructions and demonstrations on positioning, postures, and movements are essential for both the patient and the accompanying person.

  • Care for dressings and their hygiene when necessary, as per the doctor's request.

  • Manual lymphatic drainage is performed in every session. We utilize various techniques (Leduc, Godoy, Vodder), with international training and constant team training to maintain quality and precision in treatment.

  • Electrotherapy usually starts between 7 to 10 days post-surgery, varying according to the physiotherapist's evaluation and the patient's scar healing needs at the time of treatment, as seen on a daily basis since the beginning of rehabilitation. We offer several resources to be used: laser, ultrasound, endermology, high-frequency ozone, carboxytherapy, and radiofrequency.

  • Compression garments (long-sleeve or bandages) should be worn for 40 to 60 days.
